The lens cleaning spray together with a microfiber cloth offers the ideal solution for cleaning your glasses. Apply the spray to the microfiber cloth, not directly on the lenses. This way, you can be sure that you don’t damage your glasses and that the cloth is damp enough to effectively remove dirt, make-up or grease.
Even if they are used as a last resort, tissues or pinafore dress sleeves are definitely not the best solution. Clothes and tissues often leave particles of dust or dirt on the lenses, leading to micro-scratches. This gradually damages the quality of the lenses and, consequently, your vision. It is not possible to remove scratches from organic material or glass lenses. Even though the defect appears to be merely aesthetic, the light disperses through the small groove causing eye fatigue. Which often means you’ll have to buy new lenses.
At home, warm running water offers good cleaning results. Place the glasses on the chain, use a mild soap, put it in your hand, rub your hand together until it foams, and use that foam to clean the lenses and glasses. Do not directly put the soap on the lens, and handle the frame with care to prevent the frames from becoming warped or, even worse, from breaking. Then clean with the microfibre provided by the optician.
The microfibre cloth should be washed regularly, preferably with water up to 40 °C and without fabric softener. Otherwise, the cloth will leave marks the next time you clean your glasses.
