Stock lenses or manufactured lenses: what’s the difference?

The difference between stock and manufactured lenses lies in the way they are produced and the customisation options available, as we can see below:

Stock lenses

  • Prefabricated in standard sizes and strengths.
  • These are mass-produced to meet the most common prescriptions.
  • They generally have limited customisation options, such as a choice of size and strength available in a predetermined set.
  • They are more affordable and ready for immediate delivery, without the need for additional manufacturing.

Manufactured Lenses (or custom lenses):

  • These are tailor-made to meet the user’s individual vision correction needs.
  • They are produced based on the user’s specific prescription specific prescription and take into account factors such as the type of frame and the position of the eyes.
  • They offer greater flexibility in terms of customisation, including advanced options such as multifocal lenses or lenses for correcting high astigmatism.
  • Typically, they require an additional manufacturing period.
